LAHORE, July 8: A mother of seven was tortured to death by her three relatives over a trifle in Qadri Street of Sherakot on Sunday.

Sherakot police inquiries showed that 45-year-old Surraya, wife of Billa Masih, went to the adjacent house of her husband’s brother for fetching water.

During her stay, they went into arguments over some petty issue following which Lal Masih, his wife Mukhtaran and son-in-law Basharat attacked Surraya and thrashed her badly.

The woman with critical wounds was taken to hospital where she died. The suspects escaped after locking their house.

Police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case against three people on Billa’s complaint.

ACCIDENTS: A police constable and an elderly man were killed in road accidents in the city on Sunday.

Manawan police said Muhammad Khan of Batapur police station was going to a police office on a bike to deliver mail when a speeding vehicle hit him near Sharifpura, Ring Road.

Police said Khan died on the spot. Witnesses managed to capture vehicle driver Muhammad Ashraf and handed him over to the police later. Misri Shah police said 70-year-old Muhamad Shafi was knocked down and killed by a speeding bus on G T Road.

The victim was crossing the road when the bus hit him. The accident led to a traffic blockade for some time.
